How to allow Convertify through “Controlled Folder Access” on Windows
Windows blocking your conversions? Learn how to whitelist Convertify in Windows 11 Security settings to ensure smooth operation while keeping your PC secure.
Why is Windows blocking Convertify?
You might have received a notification stating that Convertify was blocked from making changes to a specific folder. This is due to a Windows security feature called Controlled Folder Access.
This feature is designed to stop unknown programs from creating or modifying files in your protected personal folders (like Documents, Desktop, or Pictures) to prevent ransomware.
Because Convertify is a file conversion tool, its primary job is to create new, converted files (e.g., turning a .png into a .jpg). Windows may mistakenly flag this legitimate action as suspicious behavior. By whitelisting Convertify, you grant it the specific permission it needs to save your files.
Method 1: The “Recently Blocked” Fix (Easiest)
Use this method if you just received a notification that Convertify was blocked.
Open Windows Security
Click the Windows Start button, type “Windows Security” into the search bar, and press Enter to open the dashboard.
Go to Virus & Threat Protection
In the left-hand menu, look for the shield icon labeled Virus & threat protection and click on it.
Manage Ransomware Protection
Scroll down to the bottom section labeled “Ransomware protection”. Click the blue link that says Manage ransomware protection.
Access the Allow List
Click on Allow an app through Controlled folder access. (Note: You may need to click “Yes” on a User Account Control prompt).
Add Convertify
Click the + Add an allowed app button and select Recently blocked apps.
Pro Tip:
- Look for
Convertify.exein the list. It will usually have a timestamp matching when your conversion failed. - Click the + button next to it to whitelist it instantly.
Method 2: The Manual Method
Use this method if the “Recently blocked” list is empty or if you want to prevent issues before they happen.
Navigate to the Setting
Follow steps 1-4 from the previous method to reach the “Allow an app through Controlled folder access” screen.
Browse for the Program
Click + Add an allowed app, but this time select Browse all apps.
Locate Convertify Executable
A file explorer window will pop up. Navigate to the folder where you installed Convertify. Check these standard locations:
Common Paths:
C:\Users\(YourUser)\AppData\Local\ProgramsC:\Program Files\Convertify\C:\Program Files (x86)\Convertify\
Select the main application file Convertify.exe and click Open.
Verify Success
Convertify should now appear in the list of “Allowed apps.” You can now close Windows Security and try your conversion again.
